Improve Your Forehand with Medicine Ball Training

One of the greatest areas of improvement in the modern era of tennis is in the physical domain. The players are bigger, stronger, and faster then ever before. To enhance performance players are relying on breakthrough strength and conditioning methods. One of the most common forms of training the pro players are using is medicine ball training. Medicine (Med) ball training is a form of plyometric training for the whole body it can really help you become a more powerful player. WTA coach Ian Barstow along with tour player Melinda Czink show you how it works.

The Balance Between Practice and Competition

There seems to be a constant debate between tennis teaching professionals; those who stress competition and match play experience, and those who stress the constant development of strokes and technique through practice sessions, lessons, and drills. Equally divergent are players themselves, many choosing one activity in lieu of the other. In reality, most legitimate pros know that there is a need for balance between these two tennis philosophies. Dave Smith addresses this issue.

ProStrokes 2.0 - Rafael Nadal's Forehand

The Rafael Nadal Juggernaut cruised into the semifinals at the Beijing Olympics with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jurgen Melzer and on Monday he is set to become the 24th player in ATP history to hold the No. 1 ranking, displacing Roger Federer who, prior to the French Open final, was on track to be the greatest player of all time. So much of this game is about confidence and momentum and about belief. At this point Rafa has all that in spades. Check out his strokes in the all new super slow-mo ProStrokes 2.0. Only on TennisOne.

½ Court Body Coordination Skills

In part 7 of his series on Progressive Tennis, Wayne Elderton examines Skill Block #3: Body Coordination Skills. The goal of the activities in this group of skills is to use the legs and body (not just the arm) in tennis shots. Inexperienced players view tennis as an "arm game" however, advanced players significantly engage their body when hitting. Using the links of the body, from the ground up, in a correct sequence helps with both power and control.

Overcoming the Mental Challenges of Relaxing

Have you ever noticed that you play tennis with freedom, accuracy, and consistency when you are practicing, but do not seem to have all of your weapons at your disposal when it counts during a match? If so, you are facing the common problem of too much tension during matches. Not to worry, every tennis player faces mental challenges related to staying sufficiently relaxed. Here, Daryl Fisher gets you started in the right direction.

ProStrokes 2.0 - Serena Williams' Backhand

Serena has answered many questions this year about her motivation, her fitness, and her commitment to another run to the top of the game. Quite simply, she looks good, and were it not for the dominant performance of her older sister, she would likely be holding yet another Wimbledon title. Her ground game is essentially a simplified version of the Agassi or Safin model. That is she holds the baseline, keeps her weight against the ball, and meets it early when an opportunity presents itself. Turn early, simplify the racquet work, keep your weight against the ball. Serena provides the model. New this issue, Serena's backhand in the all new ProStrokes 2.0
